Greetings GHS Choir Members, Family, and Friends!
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! As we come out of the tumultuous time that was the COVID-19 pandemic, I am so eager to share this wonderful journey with all of you as we start to regain a sense of normalcy. There are a lot of exciting events in store for the upcoming year and I can’t wait to share them all with you!
For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Matthew Davis and I have taken over as Choir Director at Glendora High School, Goddard Middle School, and Sandburg Middle School. I recently received a teaching credential from Cal State Fullerton and have taught choir at Diamond Bar High School as well as conducted community choirs and church choirs throughout the region. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from USC and a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Cal State Fullerton.
A little bit of personal information about me: I am married and live with my wife, Amelia, and 2 cats, Bruce and Harvey. People ask if their names were inspired by Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent, but I must confess that we landed on those two names purely by coincidence. When I’m not teaching or performing, I enjoy hiking, cooking, watching Marvel movies and TV Shows, and playing the occasional video game. My favorite band is the Arctic Monkeys and I have an irrational, inexplicable love of Chipotle.
The pandemic has provided us with many challenges, but it is my goal to treat this upcoming year as much like a normal year as possible. We have a lot of ground to make up and there will be some rebuilding, but I have an excellent team behind me supporting me in my goal of turning Glendora High School’s Choir program into the best program it can be. I can’t wait to meet all of you in person and begin making wonderful music together! Here’s to a fantastic year! Go Tartans!
